Plastic Molded Lid - Fold-Over Test

Objective Demonstrate that a cold dumpster lid can be crushed to ½ of its original length with out sustaining damage.

Test Samples A lid was cooled to –22°F and maintained at that temperature for 12 hours. The lid was then quickly attached to a simulated dumpster using a ½” diameter hinge pin. A wood frame was pressed against the non-hinged side of the lid until it was crushed to ½ of its original length (Figure 1). After the pressure was released, the lid was inspected for damage.
